Images & Details (I&D) launched John Hardy’s first collection 15 years ago to increase his visibility with consumers and retailers. Through an intensive multi-tiered marketing and pr campaign John Hardy is now an established luxury brand. Hardy’s unique work is handcrafted in Bali and combines modern concepts with centuries-old techniques. It started with a few pieces in silver, then in gold, and expanded into collections for the home, baby, gifts, as well as children’s jewelry.  I&D developed Hardy’s image as an international designer of fine hand-made accessories, building extensive consumer awareness and solid retailer relationships.  Here are a few examples:

Seasonally organized editor events in New York along with visits to his workshops and home in Bali to experience the creative process firsthand

  • Supervised Hardy’s membership in the Council of Fashion Designers of America to gain recognition and credibility in the fashion industry
  • Promoted a documentary and an Image Book for various collections
  • Created innovative cross promotions with the Design Industry Fighting for Aids, the Four Season’s Hotels and The Race to Erase MS (which resulted in a new jewelry collection for Nancy Davis) to name a few
  • Implemented partnerships with Motorola, Zippo, and Logitech for design opportunities in order to expand product base and maximize exposure
  • Generated product placements in movies such as The Terminator and TV shows such as Sex in the City, matching tie-ins with retail partners
  • Set up an interactive window during Seventh on Sixth with craftsperson from Bali to create buzz during fashion week
  • Suggested a traditional Bale hut for Neiman Marcus Christmas catalogue which resulted in major consumer placements
  • Worked with designer Chaiken to accessorize runway show
  • Repositioned brand with launch of Cinta (precious) collection, introduced at intimate lunches at Bergdorf Goodman and one on one editors appts
  • Organized Oscar suites with stylists, wardrobers and celebrities
  • Developed special product to include in Emmy, Blockbuster gift baskets
  • Created one-of-a-kind denim jacket design  for DIFFA with major retailer
  • Utilized co-op with Vanity Fair for a series of events in Aspen

 I&D continually generated product and feature placement in all the major consumer and trade publications such as Architecture Digest, W, Elle, In-Style, Elle Décor, House & Garden, Departures, New York Magazine and Vogue.  Trunk shows, personal appearances and product placements occurred consistently in luxury regional publications.  Seasonally stories ran over the AP wire services, appearing in national newspapers and USA Today.  Numerous TV segments also featured the designer and the collection, for example it appeared on CNN Style with Elsa Klensch five times. We brought Hardy’s business to the next level by producing innovative programs while creating tremendous exposure in the media.

 Today, John Hardy is sold internationally at more than 400 fine specialty and jewelry retailers including Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. He has a following of celebrity customers and is nurturing potential licensees for the future. John Hardy has traded up, created crossover to new market segments, and is now repositioned as one of the leading jewelers in America.  I&D helped Hardy meet his objective to create a sustainable luxury brand as one of the leading jewelers in America.
